Agency commission appears null on renewed policies

Last updated: October 8, 2025

When a policy renews through download and the Agency Commission field appears as null, it’s usually due to a mismatch between the Agency Commission Rule configuration and the policy’s Issuing Carrier.

Root cause

  • Agency Commission Rules are configured with specific Issuing Carrier requirements.

  • If a policy’s Issuing Carrier doesn’t match the carrier specified in the rule, the commission will not populate automatically during renewal.

Solutions

There are two ways to resolve this issue:

Create rules for each issuing carrier

If the commission amount varies by Issuing Carrier, create separate Agency Commission Rules for each carrier associated with the same Billing Company.

This ensures the correct rule is applied when policies renew.

Set issuing carrier to "All"

If the Issuing Carrier does not affect the commission amount (for example, when the Billing Company determines commission), you can modify your existing rule by setting the Issuing Carrier field to “All.”

This allows the rule to match based only on Policy Type, Effective Date, and Billing Company.

Applying a fix to existing policies

After updating your Agency Commission Rules, you can refresh existing policies in bulk to apply the correct commissions without editing each one manually:

  1. Run a report on active policies that need commission updates.

  2. Export the Record IDs from the report.

  3. Use Data Loader or Workbench to update those records (a simple edit/save operation will trigger the system to reapply matching rules).

Once the rules are corrected, future renewals will automatically populate with the correct commission information.
